Dr Sarah Finkelstein and her research group study climate history and the drivers of ecological change through the analysis of lake and wetland sediment records.
Currently, we are involved in research projects spanning Arctic to tropical biomes, and time periods ranging from Pleistocene interglacials to the post-industrial era. Our work is oriented towards fieldwork, lab analysis, microscopy and palynology. We work with diatoms and other siliceous microfossils, plant macro-remains, testate amoebae and the physico-chemical properties of sediments to aid our reconstructions. Data synthesis, spatial analysis, quantitative reconstructions and multivariate statistics are particularly emphasized in our research.
